Great section with a lot of variety in terrain, forest mix, and art even! Things start getting a bit more rugged – just an appetizer for the gnarly entree that’s gonna get served up to us in the north. I’m going to let the captions take care of the sights, but will say that the toll of the pace has started to wreak a bit of havoc on our aging, yet tender frames. For myself, I have an odd pain in my Achilles area – like someone kicked me really hard there. I’m used to it in my posterior of course, but this is a new one and seems to be aggravated by descents. Chris has ankle and knee woes. But hey, we can play hurt and honor our contracts, and that’s what we intend to do!
Little Rock Pond is an awesome little gem
The remnants of some old biz on the north end of the
The “Rock Garden,” in an area called, wait for it… White Rocks!
White Rocks Outlook. Hit it on a great day. The rocks you see on the other side of the valley cover deep winter ice. You can hike it on the hottest day and it stays very chilly If you’re hiking the AT south, you apparentlysuck. Bwahahaha!Tons of these spooky old craggy trees up here. I could fit my whole body inside this guy w/o my pack. Hard to get across just how extraordinary the ordinary is up here as the miles tick bySpot called Airport Lookout. Rutland Southern Regional or something. Above Clarendon Gorge. Don’t think there is another spot quite like this on the whole trail. Busy state highway right next to it and I bet 90% of the traffic has no idea this is 100 feet off the road Crossing the railroad and Rt 103A primeval boulder climb gets us to……a view of the same airport! Outstanding spot – nice grassy flat area in from of shelter, new privy, and a guy who brings firewood and beer! Sadly for us nothing but empties in the coolerSo “Chef” from Burlington built a fire, which we put out before crashing cuz we’re good Trail citizens
